what exactly went wrong? tonight a team lead by the metro's chief safety officer is working to figure that out. crews who had been welding sections of track together inside the red line trouble describe a loud noise and fire. it's not clear if a mechanical issue is to blame but investigators say it caused a 40-foot section of rail hitting a metro track rail and a contractor worker.ract all three were taken to the t hospital just after midnight with serious injuries. the contractor, 41-year-old harold ingram, did not survive. in a statement, in part following the incident all redin lineci track work was suspended. there were counseling services and reinstruct eps on safety procedures. the work was part of a five and a half billion dollar project.

that shattered the old record so that's two days in a row where dulles has had a record high temperature. what we call a full latitude trough, a big storm system probable for a lot of heavy snoy and colder temperatures on the back side. no snow now. at least no snow on the radar. but you can see this line of showers and thunderstorms and severe weather, too, this afternoon. it goes all the way down into the gulf.e unless you knew there was a tropical storm yesterday, you ys wouldn't be able to tell it today. it's all been absorbed along from frontal system. what we're calling karen now iso the remnants owf karen. kar national hurricane center put out their last advisory on her this morning at 10:00 a.m. they said it's all kaput there. that's good. you don't want to encouragege that. heavy rain coming in here and it looks like if we look at thet rain over the next couple of days or so, the trend is going

to be tonight and early tomorrow, the heaviest down here through the deep south. the darker red chores indicating obviously where the heaviest ofi the rain will be. i don't think we see a lot of that deep tropical moisturep tr coming from karen here but we'll end up with showers and thunderstorms tomorrow that will bring us at least a little bit t of rain and i tell you what, looking at this, my gut will tell me -- i don't like too forecast with my gut -- but we'll be at the low end of these thumbs, a half inch and one ince of rain but these dry conditions like this, it's real hard to get much rain and so until we get it tomorrow, again, this will be wl enough to help us out of thisut little bit of a dry spell but a little bit will be good. i'm sure we have more coming upp in the next few weeks but this week, we're not talking about heat. talking about temperatures a going back to where they shoulde be and i'll prove that to you'l coming up in the full forecast f in just a few minutes.
